An operatic requiem? Perhaps. But above all, Verdi's Messa da Requiem is a passionate outburst of the heart: deeply moving, the work joins the ranks of the Italian national hero's most important lyrical works. The mass setting was composed in the midst of mourning the loss of the great poet and close friend Alessandro Manzoni, who, like Verdi himself, was a formative figure of the Italian Risorgimento. The Messa da Requiem demands everything - and is therefore perfect for the Zurich Opera Orchestra and Chorus under the direction of the Italian conductor and General Music Director of the house, Gianandrea Noseda. The soloist quartet with Eleonora Buratto, Elina Garanča, Jonathan Tetelman and Roberto Tagliavini guarantees an overwhelming evening!
