Bach Ensemble Lucerne: "Frank Martin meets Johann Sebastian Bach"
Frank Martin's music is the focus of this year's BEL:
The concert opens with the Ballade for alto saxophone, accompanied by strings, piano, timpani and percussion. The "Cantate pour le 1er août" goes back to a composition competition organized by the Pro Helvetia Foundation for the 650th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation in 1941.
Brass, a baritone solo and the mixed choir characterize the brilliant "Ode à la Musique". And the concert ends with the popular cantata "Erschallet, ihr Lieder" - BWV 172 by J.S. Bach.
