Tine Thing Helseth
The trumpet as a voice between tradition and change
Tine Thing Helseth is one of the best solo trumpet players in the world. In this program, she enchants the audience with finely selected and self-arranged works on the seasonal theme "Boulangerie".
When Astor Piazzolla went to Paris on a scholarship to study composition in 1954, he did not tell his professor Nadia Boulanger that he had played and composed tangos in his home country. She persistently searched for Piazzolla's individual handwriting and found it when she heard him play the tango on the piano for the first time.
The Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz also went to Paris at a young age to study with Nadia Boulanger. After her death, her works disappeared from the repertoire and concert programs, although today she is considered the most important Polish composer of the 20th century. Even though her compositional work began in the neoclassical period, she resisted the integration of her works into this style. She was of the opinion that composing was a discrete, individual matter for each individual.
