Young ZKO final concert

Music education for children

How can you get children interested in the fascinating world of classical music? Around ten years ago, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra launched the Young ZKO project together with music educator Oliver Hauser. The aim is to give children access to classical music and introduce them to this music in a lively way.

The Young ZKO is based on two central pillars: a look behind the scenes of an orchestra and a direct exchange between children and musicians. This includes visits by soloists in the classroom as well as excursions by school classes to the ZKO building. The morning of visits is particularly popular, where the pupils get to know both the orchestra and the administrative processes during a guided tour.

Over the course of two years, the children immerse themselves in the world of classical music and the orchestra. The highlight is the final concert: together with composer Carmen Nuñez and music educator Oliver Hauser, the children create their own theme, write texts, design the stage set - and even compose their own pieces of music. At the end of the season, they finally perform together with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra on the stage of the ZKO House and celebrate the crowning finale of an inspiring and intensive collaboration.
