Easter Concert
Mozart appears twice, in two guises. First, the Mozart of the day—the academy pianist, the man of the salon—but a Mozart who, at the heart of his most elegant concerto, is already opening a window onto the shadows. It is up to Victorien Vanoosten, at the keyboard, to move from brilliance to the abyss, from A major to F-sharp minor.
Then the Mass in C minor reveals another side: the Mozart of the night, who left this work unfinished, just as one leaves a prayer hanging in the air. The Kyrie is a supplication, the Gloria an exaltation, and the whole a declaration of love: all gestures of the sacred, brimming with a humanity and theatricality that make them vibrant.
