Promoting young talent in Arosa

Supporting Young Talent in ArosaFor many years, the Arosa Kultur association has been deeply committed to supporting talented children and teenagers in their musical development. This commitment is evident in many ways—particularly through the Arosa Music Course Weeks.

The Arosa Music Course Weeks take place between June and October, attracting about 1,500 participants from Switzerland and abroad. Several courses are specifically dedicated to promoting young talent:

French horn course - for over 30 years under the direction of Stefan Ruf and Heiner Krause. Almost 40 children and young people from the Basel area travel to Arosa every year.

Violin Course – Led by Jens Lohmann for over 25 years, with 20–30 young participants each year.

Children's Dance Class – For the past 5 years with Rea Güttinger, for children ages 8 to 13.

Children's and Youth Orchestra Week – This event has also been part of the program for over 20 years. This year, it took place for the first time under the new direction of Therese Hauser.

Youth Chamber Music Week – In October, led by Katharina Stibal, Katharina Schick, and Jonas Kreienbühl. Special feature: close collaboration with the Swiss Youth Music Competition (SJMW). This year, 16 second-place winners from the SJMW will participate free of charge.

Children and young people are also welcome in many other of the 132 music course weeks. They benefit from a discount of CHF 100 on the regular course fee; special children's courses are even cheaper. Thanks to the support of various foundations, generous scholarships can also be awarded.

"arosa music academy"

The «Arosa Music Academy,» part of the Arosa Music Course Weeks, features two special master classes at the highest level. The first week, under the direction of Prof. Lars Mlekusch, is offered for accordion and saxophone, and the second week, under the direction of Markus Fleck, is for violin, viola, and cello. In addition to daily individual lessons with university professors, there are intensive chamber music classes.

Hans Schaeuble Award

The Hans Schaeuble Foundation in Zurich has supported the Arosa Kultur Association for many years and also places great emphasis on promoting young musicians and chamber music ensembles. The award and the recognition prizes are presented to outstanding participants in the two «arosa music academy» weeks.
