Season Finale with Kristian Bezuidenhout & Daniel Hope

Mozart and Mendelssohn – Two Child Prodigies Meet

Mozart and Mendelssohn—both were prodigies who died young, and both possessed the extraordinary gift of making the highest level of compositional craftsmanship seem effortless and natural. It is no coincidence, then, that Felix Mendelssohn—who already displayed impressive artistic maturity in his early string symphonies—was hailed as the «Mozart of the century.» Music Director Daniel Hope dedicates the grand season finale to these two brilliant figures and joins forces for the occasion with pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout—a proven expert on both Mozart and Mendelssohn, who will perform side by side with Daniel Hope in Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin and Piano. In the Symphony in A major, composed during his years in Salzburg, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart transforms his fresh impressions of Vienna into a strikingly characterful, rapturous, and colorful score—a youthful stroke of genius that brings this program to a brilliant close.
