Gypsy Jazz Step By Step is already the third volume with which the German guitarist Manfred Fuchs brings us closer to the world of swing in the tradition of Django Reinhardt. While the 2009 release Gypsy Jazz Workshop required some previous knowledge and the Modern Gypsy Jazz Collection The first volume served to expand the repertoire, the current volume now introduces all interested guitarists who are reasonably adept at reading notes or tablature, even in higher registers, to the technique of the "gypsy guitar" from the ground up.

A total of 38 progressively arranged, short but attractive pieces are presented to us on the one hand as a carefully written-out melody, and on the other as a sequence of fingering diagrams, with simple basic to somewhat more complicated jazz chords. The notes that can be used for improvisation are indicated for each chord. It is rather unfortunate that the basic notes are shown as small diamonds in the diagrams, which almost disappear graphically next to the other notes. On the accompanying CD, the pieces are also available in two versions: as a melody with accompaniment and as a pure chord sequence to which you can improvise.

The brief notes on rhythm and improvisation at the beginning of the course are very useful. The note "Book one" on the title page indicates that a sequel is planned.
