Balatsinos wins third prize in Brescia
Georgios Balatsinos has won third prize in the Città di Brescia - Giancarlo Facchinetti Conducting Competition for New and Contemporary Music.
A total of 36 conductors from all over the world were selected from over 120 applicants to take part in the 4-day competition in Brescia. The competition in honor of the Italian conductor and composer Giancarlo Facchinetti, who died last year, was held for the first time and will now take place every two years. As the winner, the 34-year-old Balatsinos will conduct several concerts of the Dedalo Ensemble in Italy and Romania in the coming season.
Greek-born conductor Georgios Balatsinos has made a name for himself in Switzerland as an innovative youth orchestra leader. He is also co-initiator of the Sinfonietta Mosaique, which is active throughout the canton of Bern. He is currently conducting The Magic Flute at the Greek National Opera in Athens in a production by Barrie Kosky.
