22 years on the Central Executive Board

Cristian Vasile, a violinist with the OSR, served on the SMV Central Executive Board for nearly a quarter of a century.

While still a student at the Academy of Music in Bucharest from 1979 to 1982 and subsequently at the Academy of Music in Munich from 1982 to 1985, Cristian Vasile won two international competitions: the «Michelangelo Abbado» International Violin Competition «Michelangelo Abbado» in Sondrio in 1981 and the “Maria Canals” International Violin Competition in Barcelona in 1984.

From 1984 to 2000, he was a member of the second violin section of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since 2001, he has held the same position with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

Co-President Muriel Noble, who was his colleague in the Geneva orchestra, delivered her laudatory speech at the delegates« meeting in Biel on June 25: »Dear Cristian, I know you first and foremost as a fellow violinist in the OSR, and for more than 20 years I have known you as a musician who is passionate about his instrument and who strives for perfection by experimenting with different ways of playing, including variations in volume and tone. You brought this intelligence and this ability to see things from a different perspective to the Central Executive Board for 22 years. On behalf of the entire Executive Board, I thank you for enriching our meetings with your humor, your freshness, and your contrasting opinions! Continue to dare, dear Cristian, to explore new paths in this new chapter as a retired musician and union activist. We have no worries about your future; your retirement is sure to be very active and colorful, off the beaten path. A thousand thanks for all these years of service to music and union causes!”
