The SUISA is the cooperative of authors and publishers of music in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Over 45,000 composers, lyricists and music publishers from all genres are organized in the cooperative society, which was founded in 1923. SUISA collects copyright royalties on their behalf when their music is used publicly in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Thanks to agreements with over 100 sister societies around the world, SUISA administers the rights of a total of two million authors and music publishers. SUISA employs around 220 people at its offices in Zurich, Lausanne and Lugano and, as a non-profit organization, distributes the income from the licences to the music authors and publishers after deducting administrative costs.
In 2017, SUISA founded the joint venture Mint Digital Services together with the US music organization SESAC. The company is responsible for the settlement and administration of the cross-border music licensing business of SESAC Music Group and SUISA with online providers and also offers its services to publishers.
SUISA represents the so-called minor rights. These include non-theatrical musical works, concert versions of theatrical works and musical works in cinema and television films. Major rights such as operas or musicals are represented by the Société Suisse des Auteurs SSA.
