Advent concert - "Don Giovanni - with a twinkle in the eye"

Experience "Don Giovanni" with 5 clarinets and the actor Rolf Sommer in pocket format with entertaining texts.

What happens when five clarinets and an actor perform an entire opera - without any singers? Experience Mozart's "Don Giovanni" in a lively chamber version! "Clarinettissimo" brings the full sonic splendor of the clarinet family to the stage. Two clarinets (Fabio Di Càsola, Nicolai Pfeffer), two basset horns (Stephan Siegenthaler, Francesco Negrini) and a bass clarinet (Letizia Zoppis) replace the orchestra, Rolf Sommer narrates with wit and charm. Opera with a difference - compact, creative and full of enthusiasm.

There is a rich palette of works for several clarinets. Starting with Wolfgang Amadé Mozart, who fell in love with the clarinet in 1778. At the time, he wrote to his father from Mannheim, where he had heard the clarinet for the first time: "Oh, if only we had clarinetti too!" and subsequently composed some of his most beautiful pieces for and around the clarinet. These include the trios for basset horns, musical gems of universal dimensions, but of course also his immortal Clarinet Concerto and the Gran Partita for 12 wind instruments and double bass, which features two basset horns as well as two clarinets. However, the basset horn has little to do with the common horn, except that it is also a wind instrument and has a funnel-shaped bell. But it is a clarinet that is lower than the normal clarinet and occupies the alto voice in the clarinet family. Thanks to the large range of the clarinets and the additional third in the basset horn, the basset horn can play in all registers from tenor to bass. Two "normal" clarinets, two basset horns and a bass clarinet complete an ensemble that consists "only" of clarinets, but can play in all registers - "Clarinettissimo"! And such a quintet can also play an entire opera, especially as it is always said that the clarinet is the instrumental incarnation of the human voice. Rolf Sommer adds a "real" human voice to the mix, telling us the hair-raising story of Don Giovanni with a twinkle in his eye.
