Improvisation and composition - what seems strictly separate today was a fluid game in earlier centuries: Musicians improvised over ostinati such as Chaconne, Ground or the famous Folías de España with joy, wit and virtuosity. Jordi Savall and the music group Hespèrion XXI dedicate themselves to precisely this ephemeral art.
What once traveled from Spain across the Atlantic to South America comes to life here: Music that oscillates between courtly sophistication, Iberian melancholy and Moorish heritage, complemented by improvisational lightness and tonal depth. Works by little-known masters such as Diego Ortiz or Gaspar Sanz stand alongside anonymous gems and create a program that is fresh, rhythmic and surprising.
A captivating evening that shows how spontaneous, agile and powerful early music can be today - masterful and unconventional, as we know it from Jordi Savall.
