CAMERATA BERN - Albion

Mythical England resounds in Thomas Adès' O Albion, a movement from the string quartet Arcadiana. One has the impression of listening to a time when everything was still good. In her debut with CAMERATA BERN, violinist Maria Włoszczowska combines this idyll with Benjamin Britten's finely crafted variations on a theme by Frank Bridge. Essentially related to Adès, Britten's variations are based on one of the Three Idylls by his revered composition teacher Frank Bridge.

Ludwig van Beethoven also created a unique moment of pause and internalization with the Cavatina in his 13th string quartet. The program escalates into mystical rapture with two arranged chants by Hildegard von Bingen. Rougher, almost gruff tones contrast with this in Johann Sebastian Bach's Concerto in D minor - baroque virtuosity in a minor key.
