Concert – Coeurs vaillants
Here, three tormented figures appear. First, Manfred, consumed by a guilty love—that for Astarte, his sister. He dies of pride, without seeking redemption; his last words reveal this: «Old man! ‘Tis not so difficult to die.» Then comes the composer Elgar, who is engulfed by the twilight and, through his score, entrusts Maximilian Hornung’s cello with a whispered farewell on the brink of the unknown. Finally, Tchaikovsky and his Fifth Symphony, at the heart of which a nameless figure enters the scene: Fate, whose heavy march traverses the four movements and which the Finale desperately attempts to overthrow.
