The Nutcracker

Start the new year with the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra of the Czech Republic, conducted by Christian Knüsel, and a concert full of rich tones and magic. The program opens with Bedřich Smetana’s virtuosic overture to the famous opera *The Bartered Bride*, a masterpiece of Czech national music. Paul Dukas’s *The Sorcerer’s Apprentice* brings Goethe’s well-known ballad to life through music. Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s «Capriccio espagnol» then exudes Spanish temperament and brilliant orchestral colors. After intermission, this time-honored orchestra will transport you to a fairy-tale dream world with the most beautiful melodies from Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s ballet ‘The Nutcracker.« The story of Clara, the Nutcracker, and the Mouse King has delighted young and old alike for generations.
