Pen and Bow 1: Erich Kästner

Stories and sounds in dialog

In the “Feder und Bogen” series, the musicians of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, together with actor Thomas Douglas and dramaturg Anina La Roche, create small musical worlds centered on fascinating and inspiring figures from the history of music and literature.

Even during the Weimar Republic, Berlin was considered a melting pot of cultures. Musically, the spectrum ranged from popular revue theater to jazz, chansons, and pop songs, all the way to Hindemith’s New Objectivity. Right in the thick of it: Erich Kästner, his children’s books, his satirical commentary on the times, and a touch of «Babylon Berlin.».
