Ludwig van Beethoven was also an excellent pianist and master of improvisation. It therefore comes as no surprise that he played his
often sat at the piano as a soloist himself. This was also the case at the premiere of his third piano concerto on April 5, 1803 in Vienna. With the Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, Beethoven freed himself from some of the influences of his training with Joseph Haydn. He also defied the expectations placed on him in Vienna as "Mozart's successor". Beethoven showed his true colors. The critics were flabbergasted, the audience rejoiced. Vienna had never heard such bold sounds before!
