CHAMBER MUSIC WEEK / Valentina Dubrovina & Silvia Carlin
Late Romantic discoveries and forgotten scores form the glittering finale of the Chamber Music Week 2026. The duo, consisting of cellist Valentina Dubrovina and pianist Silvia Carlin, takes us back to a time of musical upheaval and sheds light on works that are unjustly overshadowed by the standard repertoire.
With the first cello sonata by Percy Sherwood, the duo opens a work that is deeply rooted in the German tradition and unmistakably seeks proximity to Brahms in its harmony and structure. This density is contrasted by the „Four Pieces“ by Frank Bridge, which unfold a finely nuanced, colorful tonal language, oscillating between lyrical intimacy and subtle modernity.
The final piece is the Sonata op. 113 by Alexander Gretchaninov - a work that impresses with its melodic intensity, emotional depth and independent tonal language. This selection shows the diversity of European musical traditions at the turn of the century and provides a stage for the sonorous expressivity of the cello.
