Matinée des Jeunes Etoiles VI

Ukrainian violinist Georgii Moroz not only impresses as an outstanding competition winner, but also as a composer - a talent that he would like to demonstrate impressively at his debut in Gstaad. He has put together a gripping "mixture" for his program: the virtuosity of Bartók and Ysaÿe paired with the emotional depth of Prokofiev's Violin Sonata No. 1. The composer himself describes this poignant work, which was played by David Oistrakh and Samuil Feinberg at Prokofiev's funeral, in an eerie premonition: the violin's glissandi in the outer movements sound as if "the wind is blowing through a cemetery".
