Reflets dans le présent

Claude Debussy's late sonata for harp, viola and flute is a cosmos in itself. In formal terms, it looks back to the 18th century and, in its unusual sonority, encompasses both the wandering melodies of the shepherd god Pan playing on a reed and Spanish flamenco echoes: Mediterranean behind-the-glass painting, so to speak. How will the students in Dieter Ammann's composition class react to this music and the rare combination of instruments? Perhaps like Tōru Takemitsu with his deeply poetic homage to Debussy's sonata, which gives the wind a metaphysical meaning? Or something completely different?
