Christmas concerts - André Fischer with the Zurich Concert Choir
Every year, the Zurich Concert Choir under the direction of André Fischer presents us with a festive Christmas program for the traditional
Christmas concerts in the beautiful Fraumünster.
This year's program focuses on exhilarating works by George Frideric Handel. Alongside Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel is the most important composer of the Baroque era. His works occupy a unique position, particularly in the genres of opera and oratorio, with which no other composer of this age can compare. In addition to the musical setting of Psalm 112 Laudate pueri Dominum by the 23-year-old Handel, we also hear his oratorio The Triumph of Time and Truth, the original Italian-language version of which was written by George Frideric Handel for Rome in 1707. Exactly 50 years later, a few years before his death, he turned to the material once again. In 1757, the composer had received a new commission for London, but as he was already almost blind at this point, he used an existing composition as a relief and arranged it.
