Zurich Baroque with Rachel Podger

Queen of the Baroque Violin

Initiated by the Zurich Opera House, «Zürich Barock» is once again presenting a diverse program this season, ranging from Baroque opera to chamber music.

With a musical tribute to Charles Avison, Johann Sebastian Bach, Domenico Gallo, and George Frideric Handel, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra is participating in «Zürich Barock.» Joining them is Rachel Podger, described by The Times as «the unrivaled British master of the Baroque violin.» In October 2015, she became the first woman to be awarded the prestigious Bach Prize by the Royal Academy of Music. Infected with «baroque fever» from her earliest youth, she founded the Brecon Baroque Festival and the multi-award-winning ensemble Brecon Baroque. For her solo album *Tutta Sola*, Rachel Podger was honored in 2023 with the BBC Music Magazine Recording of the Year Award and the Instrumental Award.
