Erika Radermacher turns ninety

The versatile performer and composer Erika Radermacher is a formative personality of the Swiss music avant-garde.

In conversation, the composer Regina Irman wrote in 1985 about her colleague Erika Radermacher that she was completely devoid of ambition, airs and graces. «With naturalness and naturalness, she is simply a musician and as such takes on a wide variety of functions.» Everything is integrated. This attitude is indeed characteristic of Erika Radermacher, who was born on April 16, 1936 in Eschweiler near Aachen and came to Switzerland in 1967.

She is an excellent interpreter of both the classical and contemporary repertoire, a singer and pianist; she fills concepts with originality and personality, but also improvises excellently on the piano. As a founding member of the ensemble Neue Horizonte Bern in 1968, she led the Swiss avant-garde with her then husband Urs Peter Schneider, for example in a duo with Katharina Weber. The teacher was followed by numerous young musicians on the piano. She also trained in holistic healing, humanistic psychology and meditation and practices in Schliern near Köniz, where she created an independent, stylistically almost incomprehensible compositional oeuvre, often with unusual approaches. Although she does not believe that there is an audible difference between women's and men's music, she is a great role model for the compositional work of women in this country.
