As an entrepreneur, he offered consulting services to music schools through his company, Herzka, among other things. He had been a member of the Langenbruck municipal council since 2004 and became its chair in 2008. From 2011 to 2019, he led the Basel-Landschaft chapter of the Green Liberal Party (GLP).
