In Basel, von Grünigen Takes Over as Program Director
Kaspar von Grünigen will become the program director for the MA in Music Education at the Institute of Jazz and a lecturer in jazz pedagogy at the Basel University of Music beginning in the fall semester of 2026.
According to a press release from the university, Kaspar von Grünigen studied double bass, music production, and composition at the Basel University of Music. He also spent an exchange semester at the Academy of Music in Gothenburg. His artistic work spans jazz and improvised music, incorporates contemporary and electronic music, and frequently addresses social issues.
For nearly ten years, he has headed the Jazz Music School at the Basel Music Academy and has played a key role in its development during that time. In addition, he was the initiator and co-organizer of the Basel concert series Klappfon, and he is actively involved in cultural policy to promote musical diversity in the region. He assumed the role of interim director of the MA Music Education program in 2024.
