Around 80,000 music fans make the pilgrimage to the legendary Gurten Festival every summer.<\/p>\n

Whether it's a leisurely ride on the Gurtenbahn or a sporty hike - in July, festival fans from near and far are drawn to Bern's local mountain. The ascent is just as much a part of the festival as the hilly terrain and the view of the Alps. Once at the top, the concerts are spread across three different stages: In addition to the nationally and internationally renowned bands on the main stage and tent stage, numerous newcomers to the Swiss music scene delight the audience in front of the popular forest stage.<\/p>\n

A lot has happened since the first edition of the \"Bern-Gurten International Folk Festival\" in 1971. Far from being a major event, the organizing committee at the time failed to procure stage lighting. Emergency lamps prevented a festival in the dark. The Gurtenfestival is no longer in its infancy, but the unmistakable charm, the cozy folk festival atmosphere and the typical Bernese relaxed atmosphere can still be experienced with all the senses.<\/p>\n
