The end of the traditional place of pilgrimage seemed inevitable. However, the people of Schwyz recognized the importance of the monastery and asked the Abbot of St. Gallen for help. On August 15, 1526, Ludwig Blarer was appointed as the new abbot. Under his leadership, silence gave way to new life and Einsiedeln remained a place of spiritual contemplation and pilgrimage. The world around Einsiedeln was also changing at this time: Europe was discovering new horizons, science and art were entering an era of new beginnings. The music of this period reflects these tensions: It is both meditation and insight, number and sound, devotion and research - an art that oscillates between contemplation and awakening.<\/p>\n<p>*The concert takes place as part of the celebrations for the anniversary year 1526-2026. A guided tour beforehand at 3.45 pm invites you to an exhibition in the Abbey Library, which focuses on the revival of the monastery in 1526. Many of the items on display are accessible to the public for the first time ever.
