In Alexander Glazunov\u2019s Saxophone Concerto, she will showcase the warm tone and technical mastery that make her playing so unique. Glasunov\u2014a compatriot and contemporary of Sergei Prokofiev\u2014treated the saxophone, then still a relatively new instrument rooted in jazz and military music, not much differently from the more conventional solo instruments of a concerto in the finest late-Romantic style: sonorous, melodious, and virtuosic. The concert evening opens with sparkling colors thanks to Swiss harpist Tjasha Gafner, who performs Germaine Tailleferre\u2019s *Concertino*\u2014a true gem of the repertoire for her instrument. Prokofiev\u2019s *Symphonie classique* brings a sense of lightness and wit, before Asya Fatayeva, together with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, sends the audience off into the New Year with an exceptionally original, jazzy arrangement of Pyotr I.
