As if we were on a musical journey through time, we can trace how personal expression and individual voice emerge with ever-greater clarity from the early Haydn to the late Beethoven. The overture to the opera *L\u2019amant anonyme* by Mozart\u2019s dazzling contemporary Joseph Bologne kicks things off and sets the stage for cellist Julia Hagen to perform Joseph Haydn\u2019s Concerto in C major \u2014a work that, with its brilliant tone and alternation between solos and orchestral ritornellos, initially exudes the spirit of the late Baroque, ultimately culminating in virtuoso boldness in the finale. If that isn\u2019t the perfect setting for Julia Hagen to showcase the \u00abnaturalness, warmth, vitality, and willingness to take risks\u00bb of her playing in the most beautiful way.
