Together with premiere recordings of pieces by Marguerite Roesgen-Champion, Otilie Sukov\u00e1-Dvo\u0159\u00e1kov\u00e1, Stephanie Zaranek and Vera Winogradowa, the Paris-born, Germany-based Luxembourgish-Swiss performer and music teacher Viviane Goergen recorded her pioneering CD Pianistic miniatures by female composers<\/em> (ARS 38 559) also includes the Valses Mignonnes<\/em> by Marie Ja\u00ebll-Trautmann (1846-1925). Monumental concert pieces<\/h3>\n

Her intensive study of the Alsatian, who was trained by C\u00e9sar Franck and Camille Saint-Sa\u00ebns and married the Austrian pianist Alfred Ja\u00ebll, led to a CD dedicated to her alone. Behind the inconspicuous title Pi\u00e8ces pour piano<\/em> (H\u00e4nssler Classics HC 24004) conceals three large-scale trouvailles of program-inspired piano literature: on Dante's Divine comedy<\/em> The work is based on monumental concert pieces of strong individuality, each consisting of the six-part movements \u00abCe qu'on entend dans l'enfer, dans le purgatoire et dans le paradis\u00bb (1894). \"\"<\/p>\n

With her ostinato Dies Irae quotations in the Scenes from Hell and other motif repetitions, as well as the measures of five in the depiction of Paradise, the composer, who was a friend of Liszt and also emerged as a musicologist, went her own way, pointing far into the future. The pianist, who mentors young musicians on the basis of mental training and created a \u00abCenter for Music and Constructive Thinking\u00bb as early as 1994, exploits the philosophically profound content of the pieces with convincing intensity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

To mark the centenary of Marie Ja\u00ebll's death, Viviane Goergen has now published her insights into this trilogy in a book with an accompanying CD. In German, French and English and with illustrations from Dal\u00ed's Divine comedy<\/em> individual episodes such as \u00abDans les flammes\u00bb, \u00abSabbat\u00bb, \u00abD\u00e9sirs impuissants\u00bb, \u00abObsession\u00bb or \u00abVoix c\u00e9lestes\u00bb are described very vividly using 38 musical examples. \"\"<\/p>\n
