In essa si intrecciano le sonorit\u00e0 di La Chaux-de-Fonds e, a tratti, la Nona di Beethoven: dapprima distorta, affiora poco a poco, fino a ricomporsi. \u00c8 allora che si rivela nella sua interezza. Solo l\u2019orchestra, tre movimenti senza voci; poi un uomo si alza e dichiara: \u00abO amici, non queste note!\u00bb. Dietro quella voce, tutto il coro aspira alla gioia, ma essa sfugge: Beethoven la cerca, la perde, la traveste in marcia militare, la eleva a preghiera.
