Rispetto, si dir\u00e0, soprattutto perch\u00e9 non si tratta solo di grandi aree problematiche, ma anche di argomenti largamente inesplorati, addirittura di profezie. Richter non ha la presunzione di poter chiarire tutto ci\u00f2 che affronta. \"Molto rimane aperto\", afferma alla fine del libro. Proprio all'inizio, l'ex pianista e attuale consulente di aziende farmaceutiche ammette giustamente: \"La ricerca sul cervello dovr\u00e0 fare una chiara distinzione tra ci\u00f2 che pu\u00f2 dire e ci\u00f2 che esula dalla sua area di competenza, proprio come la musicologia (...) ha molto da dire sulla fuga di Bach, ma deve tacere quando si tratta di spiegare la sua bellezza unica.\" (S. 8)<\/p>\n<p>La relativizzazione dei metodi pi\u00f9 o meno scientifici conduce Richter a un groviglio feuilletonistico di varie linee di argomentazione. Le teorie evoluzionistiche hanno un'esistenza piacevole, affiancate da discussioni mediche pi\u00f9 strettamente ortodosse sul funzionamento del nostro cervello, da commenti soggettivi sulle nostre preferenze musicali o da speculazioni sulle variazioni di frequenza del nostro tono camerale. Il libro \u00e8 certamente divertente; la competenza dell'autore \u00e8 convincente nella sua rappresentazione dell'immensa potenza cerebrale coinvolta nell'ascolto e nella creazione di musica. Tuttavia, man mano che il libro procede, si avverte l'impressione di una certa verbosit\u00e0; sembra che troppe cose siano state semplicemente tirate fuori dalla manica. E di volta in volta il soggettivismo di Richter lo porta fuori strada. Sbaglia completamente quando si riferisce ripetutamente alla \"musica dodecafonica\" o ai \"neotoni\". Se Friedrich Blume una volta ha abusato del \"fenomeno naturale\" della musica per negare alla musica elettronica il diritto di esistere, l'approccio di Richter non \u00e8 diverso in linea di principio. Per lui, \u00e8 il cervello (naturale) che non \u00e8 ovviamente preparato a fare il passo dalla tonalit\u00e0 all'atonalit\u00e0, dalla bella melodia all'insieme incoerente di note in stile Schoenberg: \"Il cervello resiste ai pezzi atonali e dissonanti della musica dodecafonica, per quanto possa aver influenzato la teoria musicale e la pratica compositiva del XX secolo.\" (S. 45)<\/p>\n<p>Alla lunga, questi stereotipi regressivi non solo risultano pettegoli, ma anche fastidiosi. Soprattutto quando il funzionamento del cervello \u00e8, per dirla con le proprie parole, inspiegabile, soprattutto quando l'onnipresente quota entra in gioco in modo indicibile (ma improvvisamente sgradevolmente contemporaneo). Il licenziamento del direttore musicale generale di Dortmund, che ha dovuto andarsene perch\u00e9 si era sforzato di promuovere la musica contemporanea e, di conseguenza, a causa di un \"utilizzo delle capacit\u00e0 drammaticamente in calo\" (p. 45), serve a dimostrare che la musica dopo Sch\u00f6nberg non \u00e8 adatta alla ricettivit\u00e0 umana. Che i classici abbiano ancora una volta una vita infinita!
