Franz Schubert non ha affatto preso lezioni di contrappunto poco prima di morire, n\u00e9 Alban Berg ha anticipato il corale di Bach nella sua ultima opera, il Concerto per violino. <em>\u00c8 sufficiente<\/em> citato. Questa \u00e8 la logica inversa della posterit\u00e0, che cerca un senso di fronte alla sequenza degli eventi, costruisce una coerenza biografica e ipotizza un piano mondiale pi\u00f9 ampio - anche se, a ben guardare, raramente qualcosa nella propria vita sembra veramente logico. Persino l'opera di Beethoven <em>Canto elegante<\/em> op. 118, pubblicata postuma nell'agosto del 1827, non fu risparmiata da simili aberrazioni nella ricezione. Adolf Bernhard Marx lo not\u00f2 in una succinta recensione dello stesso anno: <em>Gli ultimi poemi tonali di Beethoven parlano a volte di un'emozione cos\u00ec tenera, intima e trasfigurante che si \u00e8 tentati di sentire un senso di partenza imminente; sono sogni e presentimenti che fluttuano sulle corde, come presto sulla terra, con un soffio morbido\".<\/em> ... <em>risvegliando il suo suono e svanendo con esso\".<\/em> (<em>Berliner Allgemeine Musikalische Zeitung<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Oggi sappiamo che l'opera largamente sconosciuta e solo raramente eseguita <em>Canto elegante<\/em> fu composta 13 anni prima, presumibilmente in relazione al terzo anniversario della morte di Eleonore von Pasqualati, avvenuta il 5 agosto 1814. Si tratta della seconda moglie dell'amico, avvocato e padrone di casa di Beethoven Johann Baptist Freiherr von Pasqualati, che mor\u00ec all'et\u00e0 di 24 anni, probabilmente di travaglio. Probabilmente l'opera non fu mai pensata per un grande coro e un'orchestra (come di solito viene registrata), ma piuttosto per un'esecuzione come parte di una preghiera privata o di un servizio commemorativo. In ogni caso, la partitura lo indica, poich\u00e9 le quattro parti vocali sono accompagnate solo da un quartetto d'archi (espressamente senza basso): <em>\"con accompagnamento di 2 violini, viola e violoncello\".<\/em>.
