Beethoven ha poco a che fare con entrambi i fenomeni musicali (il Rinascimento e il periodo preclassico), eppure nel catalogo delle sue opere c'\u00e8 una composizione \"con due occhiali obbligati\". Naturalmente, gli occhi e gli occhiali non sono intesi come contrappunto alla viola e al violoncello, ma l'appellativo si riferisce scherzosamente ai due musicisti per i quali Beethoven scrisse il duetto. Tra l'altro, gli ausili visivi non erano lorgnette che venivano tenute su uno stelo davanti agli occhi durante la lettura (occhiali a sinistra, libro a destra). Piuttosto, per poter suonare liberamente, erano necessari occhiali pi\u00f9 elaborati con montatura a tempia o a stanghetta, o anche un semplice \"stringinaso\", se necessario (in questo caso, come sempre: viola a sinistra, arco a destra - e in questo caso comunque: occhiali sul naso).<\/p>\n<p>Naturalmente non si sa per chi Beethoven abbia scritto il duetto. \u00c8 stato pi\u00f9 volte suggerito che potrebbe essere addirittura per se stesso (viola) e per il suo amico Nikolaus Zmeskall (1759-1833, funzionario e compositore). Sebbene ci\u00f2 sia suggerito da una lettera risalente all'epoca dell'opera (dei primi anni a Vienna), non pu\u00f2 essere verificato con certezza. Ci\u00f2 che rimane \u00e8 l'affermazione <em>\"Carissimo Barone Dreckfahrer je vous suis bien oblig\u00e9 pour votre faiblesse de vos yeux\".<\/em> (Sono molto obbligato a causa della debolezza dei vostri occhi) troppo generica.<\/p>\n<p>Inoltre, ci si chiede se la composizione fosse \"finita\". Nel cosiddetto \"quaderno degli schizzi di Kafka\" sono sopravvissuti solo un primo movimento lungo e completo e un minuetto, un fascio completamente disorganizzato; esistono solo 23 battute di un (secondo?) movimento lento. Ma anche laddove Beethoven ha scritto il testo musicale completo, mancano ampie parti dell'articolazione e della dinamica. Forse un tempo esisteva una copia corretta che \u00e8 andata perduta nel corso dei decenni o si \u00e8 assopita in un caveau di famiglia per generazioni.
