Con queste parole tratte dall'opera di Mozart <em>Don Giovanni<\/em> il mandolino si esibisce ancora oggi sul palcoscenico dell'opera e rivela qualcosa sulle sue origini nella musica popolare italiana. Ma non fu solo questa meravigliosa canzonetta a contribuire alla sua popolarit\u00e0. Verso la fine del XIX secolo, il mandolino napoletano accordato in quinta era altrettanto popolare a Parigi che a Vienna o a Praga. Johann Nepomuk Hummel, ad esempio, scrisse diverse composizioni complete, e nel 1798 lo strumento si trova nella curiosa partitura di Leopold Kozeluch <em>Sinfonia concertante<\/em> per pianoforte, mandolino, tromba, contrabbasso e orchestra. L'opera di Beethoven presenta anche quattro movimenti brevi, tra cui due \"sonatine\", che egli etichett\u00f2 come tali, ma ognuna delle quali nasconde un solo movimento.<\/p>\n<p>Queste petitessen, probabilmente le pi\u00f9 equilibrate dal punto di vista sonoro ad essere accompagnate da un fortepiano, furono composte durante il soggiorno di Beethoven a Praga tra il febbraio e l'aprile del 1796 come commissione o favore per la contessa Josephine von Clary-Aldringen. Tuttavia, tutti e quattro i singoli pezzi (un possibile quinto \u00e8 andato perduto) caddero nell'oblio con la stessa rapidit\u00e0 del mandolino, almeno per quanto riguarda la musica da sala o da salotto. Solo negli anni Venti del Novecento lo strumento torn\u00f2 a fiorire. Tra l'altro, \u00e8 stato utilizzato anche da Arnold Sch\u00f6nberg, sia nella versione dodecafonica che in quella dodecafonica. <em>Serenata<\/em> op. 24 (1920\/24) e nell'arrangiamento del brano di Luigi Denza <em>Funicoli, funicula <\/em>(1921). I brani di Beethoven sono stati stampati per la prima volta tra il 1880 e il 1940.<\/p>\n<p>Un'occhiata all'autografo dell'Adagio in do minore WoO 43a, che viene etichettato come \"sonatina\", dimostra che Beethoven doveva ovviamente tenere conto delle limitate capacit\u00e0 tecniche.
