Il finale della Nona \u00e8 sulla bocca e nelle orecchie di tutti. Il <em>Missa solemnis<\/em> pu\u00f2 essere chiamato con sicurezza <em>Opus magnum <\/em>e la Messa in Do maggiore sta alla sua ombra. Ma un oratorio, soprattutto per la Settimana Santa? In effetti <em>Cristo sul Monte degli Ulivi <\/em>L'op. 85, unico contributo di Beethoven a questo genere, \u00e8 quasi completamente scomparso dal repertorio. Forse fu il caso a portare Beethoven a comporre quest'opera. All'inizio del 1803, Emanuel Schikaneder gli aveva commissionato un'opera per il Theater an der Wien. Inoltre, gli era stato assicurato che avrebbe potuto eseguire dei concerti con i musicisti a proprio beneficio, il primo il 5 aprile 1803, il marted\u00ec della Settimana Santa.<\/p>\n<p>Beethoven aveva incluso nel programma le sue prime due sinfonie e il terzo concerto per pianoforte e orchestra. Anche l'oratorio fu composto pi\u00f9 o meno a breve termine, in sintonia con l'anno ecclesiastico. In seguito afferm\u00f2 che era stato scritto in \"un anno\".<em>14 giorni<\/em>\" \u00e8 stato scritto, \u00e8 <em>cum grano salis<\/em> di prendere. I primi abbozzi risalgono al febbraio di quell'anno. Soprattutto, per\u00f2, Beethoven vedeva evidentemente l'oratorio come un passo verso l'opera, sia dal punto di vista drammaturgico che musicale.<\/p>\n<p><em>Cristo sul Monte degli Ulivi<\/em> fu eseguita con successo. Tuttavia, il libretto di Franz Xaver Huber (1755-1814) si rivel\u00f2 problematico al di fuori di Vienna, tanto che l'editore apport\u00f2 modifiche non autorizzate al momento della stampa (Breitkopf &amp; H\u00e4rtel, Lipsia 1811). Beethoven ne venne a conoscenza solo nelle bozze di stampa - troppo tardi per poter chiarire i punti fondamentali a suo favore, anche se dovette ammettere: \"<em>il testo \u00e8 estremamente scadente<\/em> nel vecchio significato di \"semplice\", <em>Ma una volta che si \u00e8 usciti da una brutta situazione<\/em> arbitrare <em>testo nel suo complesso, \u00e8 difficile evitare che venga disturbato da singoli cambiamenti<\/em>.\"<\/p>\n<p>In particolare, ha fatto riferimento al coro dei guerrieri, cosa che sembra un po' strana: \"<em>L'abbiamo visto, \/ andare verso quella montagna, \/ prendere il sentiero a sinistra, \/ deve essere molto vicino!<\/em>\"Tali versi hanno senso solo sullo sfondo della tradizione esecutiva viennese, che a quanto pare comprendeva anche un concetto scenico. In ogni caso, diversi libri di testo dell'epoca contengono riferimenti corrispondenti, come \"<em>Cristo. Si inginocchia a una certa distanza dai discepoli addormentati.<\/em>\", \"C<em>Cristo sorge<\/em>\", \"<em>Paolo sfodera la spada<\/em>\", \"<em>Coro dei soldati che conducono Cristo<\/em>\". Qui vale particolarmente la pena di consultare il testo musicale dell'attuale edizione integrale (disponibile anche come partitura di studio presso Henle).
