A causa delle circostanze (Mozart era morto inaspettatamente dieci mesi prima), la triade classica era gi\u00e0 stata nominata nel 1792, prima ancora che Beethoven avesse potuto sviluppare il proprio stile. Tuttavia, \u00e8 pi\u00f9 probabile che questo obbligo imposto privatamente alla sua partenza da Bonn porti Beethoven a esplorare presto la sua eredit\u00e0 in modo creativo e indipendente, senza lasciarsi sempre influenzare dal benintenzionato Haydn. Non solo la strumentazione, insolita per l'epoca, e la tonalit\u00e0 di mi bemolle maggiore, adatta agli strumenti a fiato, sono identiche, ma anche la sequenza e il carattere dei movimenti. Beethoven lo dimostra ancora di pi\u00f9 nel <em>Andante cantabile<\/em> rende un omaggio musicale al suo modello di riferimento: il tema suona, riconoscibile per tutti, su \"<em>Batti, batti, o bel Masetto<\/em>\" dal <em>Don Giovanni<\/em> su. Tuttavia, un episodio tramandato da Ferdinand Ries in occasione di un'esecuzione viennese del quintetto per pianoforte mostra che Beethoven non solo inizi\u00f2 a fantasticare durante le cadenze dei suoi concerti per pianoforte e orchestra, ma seppe anche esporsi in altri luoghi: <em>\"Nell'ultimo Allegro c'\u00e8 una pausa pi\u00f9 volte prima che il tema ricominci; durante una di queste Beethoven improvvisamente inizi\u00f2 a fantasticare, prese il Rond\u00f2 come tema e intrattenne se stesso e gli altri per un po' di tempo, cosa che non avvenne con gli accompagnatori. Questi ultimi si sono indignati e il signor Ramm si \u00e8 addirittura arrabbiato. Sembrava davvero strano che questi signori, che si aspettavano di ricominciare da un momento all'altro, continuassero a mettere gli strumenti alla bocca e poi a toglierli con calma. Alla fine Beethoven fu soddisfatto e ricadde nel rond\u00f2.
