In matematica, invece, le deviazioni standard sono utilizzate per determinare la distanza da un valore medio. E nella musica, c'\u00e8 la forma sonata. Coniato da Adolph Bernhard Marx a met\u00e0 del XIX secolo e predicato ancora oggi nelle scuole, \u00e8 fin troppo facile dimenticare che questo modello funziona solo in pochi casi, di solito particolarmente noiosi e senza eccezioni. C'\u00e8 forse un solo motivo per cui termini come esposizione, transizione, tema secondario e gruppo finale sono ancora in uso e sembrano indispensabili: servono come codici astratti che possono essere utilizzati per descrivere le caratteristiche di una composizione - almeno la maggior parte delle volte.<\/p>\n<p>Non sorprende che Beethoven abbia composto la sua Sonata per pianoforte op. 101 \"diversamente\" nel 1815\/16. Egli rompe le convenzioni ancora giovani del genere su diversi livelli, tanto che persino Marx deve affermare seccamente che qui \"<em>il nome sonata viene utilizzato per una composizione che si discosta in modo significativo dalla consueta costruzione sonata<\/em>\" (<em>Beethoven. Vita e opere<\/em>2a ed. 1863, vol. 2, p. 216). In primo luogo, si tratta della sequenza dei movimenti con un primo movimento formalmente mutevole, una marcia vivace e un movimento lento che sembra un'introduzione su larga scala al finale (con una reminiscenza del primo movimento).<\/p>\n<p>Questo vale anche per la struttura dello sviluppo - con elementi della fantasia, del recitativo o della toccata - e per la tessitura con procedure nettamente contrappuntistiche: Il trio della marcia \u00e8 disposto come un canone, la sezione di sviluppo del finale come una fuga di ampie dimensioni.
