Per produrre pi\u00f9 di una nota per accordo, sullo strumento vengono collocate delle chevalette che dividono gli accordi in segmenti. Dal XIX secolo, il dulcimer \u00e8 dotato di almeno due di queste chevalets. Le corde sono frappe con piccoli marteaux, molto fini nei cantoni intorno al S\u00e4ntis, pi\u00f9 massicci e a forma di S nel Vallese.<\/p>\n<div class=\"main-content article clearfix\">\n<div class=\"text-section\">\n<p>Il dulcimer dell'Appenzello di oggi ha 125 accordi, raggruppati in 25 cori di 5 accordi alla stessa altezza. Nel Vallese si usa una barra per produrre un coro di un demitono, anche se lo strumento \u00e8 pi\u00f9 piccolo e ha meno accordi.<\/p>\n<p>Riconosciuto in molti paesi del mondo, il dulcimer \u00e8 particolarmente popolare in Asia e nell'Europa orientale. Non si conosce l'origine del dulcimer svizzero, ma probabilmente \u00e8 stato importato da musicisti provenienti dalla Francia di lingua italiana. Nel 1447, il suo nome viene menzionato per la prima volta in un rapporto di polizia della citt\u00e0 di Zurigo, dove un individuo che suonava il dulcimer veniva punito per aver picchiettato di notte. La prima illustrazione dello strumento si trova in un manoscritto del 1494 conservato dal monastero di Einsiedeln. Altre immagini compaiono in vari documenti e trattati di musica dell'inizio del XVI secolo. Nel 2012 \u00e8 stato scoperto a Davos un dulcimer del 1644; lo strumento compare anche in diversi tableaux e, dalla fine del XIX secolo, in fotografie. Alcune di esse rappresentano i musicisti di strada che suonavano questo strumento a Grindelwald, tra cui la leggendaria dulcimer Anna B\u00fchlmann-Schlunegger (1811-1897).<\/p>\n<p>Se i suonatori di dulcimer della Svizzera Orientale furono felici di scoprire i loro omologhi vallesani in occasione di un torneo a Briga nel 1973, rimasero veramente affascinati nel 2001 quando Johannes Fuchs venne in Appenzello a presentare il <em>Associazione mondiale Cimbalom<\/em>, con un centinaio di hackbrettisti di tutto il mondo.<\/p>\n<p>Il dulcimer viene suonato da solo, come spesso accade in Appenzello, o come parte di gruppi generalmente composti da due violoni, una contrebasse e talvolta un violoncello, una fisarmonica o un pianoforte. In Vallese, viene suonato come strumento accompagnatore e talvolta a quattro mani.<\/p>\n<p>Il movimento folk degli anni 1970 ha reso popolare l'hackbrett nei villaggi.
