L'arco politico, ideologico, artistico e musicale che copre \u00e8 troppo ampio. Elisabeth Schmierer - che fa ricerca e insegna all'Universit\u00e0 delle Arti Folkwang di Essen - non si concentra quindi su singole personalit\u00e0, ma segue piuttosto gli sviluppi di vari generi, che a sua volta illumina sullo sfondo sociale rispettivo. Come si \u00e8 sviluppata la musica da chiesa durante l'Illuminismo e l'emergere del business dei concerti? Come appare la canzone di fronte allo \"specchio della cultura musicale borghese\"? E soprattutto, ancora e ancora: a che punto \u00e8 il teatro musicale? Il tutto \u00e8 molto istruttivo, perch\u00e9 Schmierer raccoglie anche una grande quantit\u00e0 di materiale su settori collaterali come la pantomima del balletto o la musica da programma.<\/p>\n<p>A volte quasi troppo, tanto che si rischia di perdere la visione d'insieme durante la lettura. L'assenza di note a pi\u00e8 di pagina (ci sono invece molte parentesi) rende il testo ancora meno leggibile. Immagini ed esempi musicali sono quasi del tutto assenti. Anche se un glossario in appendice spiega i termini pi\u00f9 importanti, ci\u00f2 non impedisce al libro di essere piuttosto poco chiaro.<\/p>\n<p>Ne citer\u00f2 un esempio preferito, il poema della Passione dello scrittore e consigliere comunale di Amburgo Barthold Heinrich Brockes, che fu musicato da alcuni dei pi\u00f9 importanti compositori come Handel, Telemann e St\u00f6lzel, e di cui si serv\u00ec anche Bach. Questi nomi e altri ancora vengono citati, cos\u00ec come il fatto che Brockes reintrodusse il testo evangelico nell'oratorio della Passione, anche se con qualche rima. E questo \u00e8 tutto. Nulla sulle soluzioni individuali ed emozionanti che il testo altamente espressivo ha ispirato ai musicisti. No, l'enumerazione prosegue a rotta di collo.<\/p>\n<p>In definitiva, il volume, che presenta in copertina tre donne che fanno musica, rafforza l'impressione che la composizione femminile non abbia avuto alcun ruolo in quell'epoca. Solo \u00c9lisabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre compare come compositrice donna. Mancano Juliane Reichardt e Madame de Montg\u00e9roult, una delle prime insegnanti donne del Conservatorio di Parigi.
