Questo non rende giustizia alla musica del compositore, nato vicino a Sciaffusa nel 1910 e morto nel 1995 nella sua casa d'adozione sul lago di Ginevra.<\/p>\n<p>Il fatto \u00e8 che Sutermeister, che aveva studiato a Monaco di Baviera con Walter Courvoisier e l'arci-conservatore Hans Pfitzner, tra gli altri, e tra i cui amici c'erano Carl Orff e Werner Egk, molto vicini al regime nazista, sembrava cieco alla vita e alla politica in Germania. Due delle sue opere furono rappresentate con successo a Dresda nel 1940 e nel 1942, mentre una terza, scritta per Berlino, non pot\u00e9 essere eseguita a causa degli eventi bellici. Sembra strano che il libretto del nuovo CD di Toccata Classics non faccia menzione di questo problema, dato che Othmar Schoeck viene regolarmente criticato per la sua mancanza di distanza dallo Stato nazionalsocialista.<\/p>\n<p>Il CD contiene i grandi cicli vocali di Sutermeister, oltre a un'aria dall'opera <em>Romeo e Giulietta<\/em> (1940). Non c'\u00e8 dubbio che il compositore capisse il suo mestiere e fosse anche in grado di sviluppare uno stile personale basato sul tardo romanticismo tedesco, rimanendo fedele alla tonalit\u00e0 e alla strumentazione convenzionale, con il clavicembalo che aggiungeva qualche tocco di colore insolito. \u00c8 sorprendente che il <em>Sette lettere d'amore<\/em> per tenore e orchestra del 1935 non ha un suono molto diverso da quello della <em>Sei lettere d'amore<\/em> per soprano e orchestra del 1979. La scelta dei testi \u00e8 in realt\u00e0 originale: si tratta di lettere d'amore del XVI e XVIII secolo di personaggi e poeti per lo pi\u00f9 noti che descrivono stati d'animo molto diversi. Il problema \u00e8 l'abbondanza del testo, che non \u00e8 sempre comprensibile, almeno senza un libretto in mano, e appare anche un po' prolisso.
