Arnold Sch\u00f6nberg lo aveva posto all'avanguardia del modernismo dell'epoca come \"progressista\" proprio perch\u00e9 le sue composizioni corrispondevano alla \"forma tonalmente mobile\" di Hanslick e passavano in secondo piano rispetto ai \"poemi sinfonici\" di Liszt e Strauss, che erano saturi di letteratura.<\/p>\n<p>Sch\u00f6nberg rimarrebbe stupito oggi se prendesse in mano il libro di Johannes Schild, in cui l'autore scopre molti messaggi nascosti nelle quattro sinfonie di Brahms che stabiliscono connessioni con Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner, Liszt e altri. Il fatto che non solo Mahler, ma anche Brahms abbia utilizzato la capacit\u00e0 linguistica della musica per giungere alla comprensione di se stesso e della sua opera \u00e8 sorprendente ad ogni nuovo caso, che Schild \u00e8 in grado di spiegare in modo stilisticamente sicuro e comprensibile, e non solo per quei lettori che sono in grado di analizzare i numerosi esempi musicali di conseguenza.<\/p>\n<p>Le relazioni tra i movimenti nelle sinfonie sono interessanti di per s\u00e9, ma ancora pi\u00f9 gratificanti sono le relazioni tra i movimenti e quelle che stabiliscono connessioni tra le epoche musicali. A partire dalla fuga in mi maggiore di Bach, il tema finale dell'opera mozartiana <em>Sinfonia di Giove<\/em> un'intera gamma di coperture fino al <em>Canzone del destino<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Particolarmente sorprendenti, in un altro contesto, sono le <em>Meistersinger<\/em>-Aspetti che <em>Tristano<\/em>o i riferimenti musicali al \"ragazzo di latte\" Felix, che nella migliore delle ipotesi potrebbe essere il figlio illegittimo di Johannes Brahms, nato dalla sua relazione intima con Clara Schumann.<\/p>\n<p>Con trecento esempi musicali, sessanta pagine di note e ventiquattro di bibliografia, il libro sottolinea la sorprendente ricchezza di \"viscere\" compositive, ma anche di influenze extra-musicali, che non ci si sarebbe aspettati da Brahms in
