Foto: David Guyot<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Come insegnante di teoria e composizione, ha lasciato il segno su diverse generazioni di musicisti in Svizzera; come autore di opere corali, ha creato qualcosa di duraturo; la sua musica da camera, altrettanto indipendente, deve ancora essere riscoperta: Paul M\u00fcller-Z\u00fcrich (1898-1993) fu un insegnante di talento e, come compositore, un maestro del contrappunto. I suoi primi lavori per strumenti ad arco lo testimoniano.<\/p>\n<p>Formatosi a Zurigo, Parigi e Berlino, tra gli altri, con Philipp Jarnach e Volkmar Andreae, e conoscendo la musica dei suoi contemporanei, prese le distanze dalle avanguardie, preferendo orientarsi verso Brahms e Reger piuttosto che verso Schoenberg o Webern. Paul M\u00fcller-Z\u00fcrich ha fatto molta strada come consulente e organizzatore, entrando a far parte del Consiglio della Fondazione Pro Helvetia nel 1957 prima di essere nominato Presidente dell'Associazione Svizzera dei Musicisti nel 1960.<\/p>\n<p>Gli esordi espressivi del compositore, insignito del Premio per la Musica della Citt\u00e0 di Zurigo nel 1953, sono dimostrati in modo impressionante dal Quartetto Casal con Razvan Popovici (viola) in tre opere dalla partitura diversa. Il Quintetto per archi op. 2 in fa maggiore (1919) salta agli occhi dell'ascoltatore fin dalla prima battuta, quando un accordo in fortissimo \u00e8 seguito da un motivo ostinato iniziale in pianissimo e si ascolta il tema principale, che si slancia verso l'alto carico di tensione. Inquietanti interiezioni di ronzio presto offuscano il dolce fluire della musica leggermente malinconica del terzo movimento, un intermezzo che inizia dolcemente. Ostinati caratterizzano anche il finale, che \u00e8 intensificato da interiezioni fugate e termina bruscamente in re minore.<\/p>\n<p>Anche il Quartetto per archi in mi bemolle maggiore op. 4 (1921) \u00e8 caratterizzato da una forte spinta espressiva e da una tempesta, con il cromatismo dell'Adagio che costituisce il maggior contrasto con l'armonia meno complicata del rond\u00f2 finale, simile a una danza popolare.<\/p>\n<p>Il Trio per archi op. 46, composto intorno al 1950, \u00e8 calmo fin dall'inizio, con il suo movimento di apertura lirico che porta dal do minore al do maggiore.
