Non avendo molto tempo per esercitarsi, si aiut\u00f2 con una tastiera silenziosa durante la traversata. La prima ebbe luogo a New York il 28 novembre dello stesso anno. La New York Symphony Orchestra suon\u00f2 sotto la direzione di Walter Damrosch. Poco dopo, l'opera fu eseguita nuovamente a New York, questa volta sotto la direzione di Gustav Mahler. Alcuni avrebbero probabilmente voluto essere presenti...<\/p>\n<p>Si dice che le enormi esigenze della parte solistica abbiano spinto Rachmaninov a descriverlo come un \"concerto per un elefante\". Molti lo considerano anche il concerto per pianoforte con \"pi\u00f9 note\". (Quello di Busoni sarebbe comunque un serio concorrente).<\/p>\n<p>Alla luce di tutti questi superlativi, a volte si dimentica quanto questa Opera 30 sia costruita in modo economico e sapiente. Quasi tutti i temi e le melodie possono essere ricondotti a pochi motivi centrali. Questo vale non solo per la parte pianistica, ma anche per l'orchestra, che \u00e8 strettamente intrecciata con la parte solistica. Questo \u00e8 probabilmente il motivo per cui Mahler vi dedic\u00f2 molto tempo durante le prove per la suddetta esecuzione, che ovviamente impression\u00f2 molto Rachmaninov.<\/p>\n<p>Anche la rete di relazioni che lega i tre movimenti \u00e8 abilmente realizzata. Ad esempio nel finale, dove il primo tema del primo movimento riappare in modo impressionante nella parte centrale. Il collegamento tra il primo e il secondo movimento \u00e8 ottenuto anche con l'aiuto di una complessa sezione di modulazione che porta da re minore a re bemolle maggiore. Per inciso, Rachmaninov procede in modo simile anche negli altri concerti per pianoforte e orchestra.<\/p>\n<p>Dominik Rahmer ha ripubblicato questo terzo concerto per pianoforte e orchestra con G. Henle e il risultato \u00e8 pi\u00f9 che soddisfacente. La stampa \u00e8 chiara e facile da leggere e d\u00e0 alle numerose note uno spazio considerevolmente maggiore rispetto alla vecchia edizione Boosey &amp; Hawkes, ad esempio. Le diteggiature di Marc-Andr\u00e9 Hamelin sono sensate e sapientemente collocate in modo parsimonioso. La parte orchestrale (pianoforte II) \u00e8 stata tratta dall'originale di Rachmaninov e solo leggermente modificata da Johannes Umbreit per renderla pi\u00f9 facile da suonare.<\/p>\n<p>Dopo Rachmaninov, solo pochi pianisti hanno osato affrontare questo enorme lavoro. Primo fra tutti Vladimir Horowitz, che l'ha praticamente \"ereditata\" dal compositore. Oggi \u00e8 parte integrante del repertorio concertistico, anche se le richieste non sono diminuite. Vladimir Ashkenazy \u00e8 uno che ha lavorato spesso su questo concerto, sia come pianista che come direttore. Ha realizzato diverse registrazioni, la pi\u00f9 notevole delle quali \u00e8 probabilmente quella con l'Orchestra del Concertgebouw diretta da Bernard Haitink (Decca).
