Theodor Kirchner, formatosi a Lipsia e a Dresda, all'et\u00e0 di 20 anni accett\u00f2 un posto di organista a Winterthur su raccomandazione di Felix Mendelssohn. Lavor\u00f2 in Svizzera per 30 anni come insegnante di musica e direttore d'orchestra e mise su famiglia. In un necrologio svizzero si legge che \u00abper un quarto di secolo \u00e8 stato al centro delle attivit\u00e0 musicali di Zurigo e Winterthur\u00bb. Negli anni difficili dopo il suo ritorno in Germania, fu sostenuto dall'amico Brahms.<\/p>\n

Oltre a 1000 pezzi per pianoforte, ha composto molta musica da camera, tra cui alcuni con intenti pedagogici come i sette brevi quartetti per archi Solo gocce<\/em>. I brani, moderatamente difficili e di carattere variabile, comprendono solo da 16 a 60 battute (veloci). Lo stile romantico ritmicamente intrecciato richiede a tutti gli strumenti di prestare attenzione all'intero evento. Le note didattiche di Anna Erdmann-Schiegnitz in appendice all'edizione contengono importanti aiuti interpretativi e tecnici.\"\"<\/p>\n
