Foto: Hannes Heinzer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"text-section\">\n<p>Il Quartetto Merel ha gi\u00e0 esplorato con successo la musica di Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (e di sua sorella Fanny) per un album (Genuin 11204: Felix: Quartetto per archi in fa minore op. 80; Quattro pezzi per quartetto d'archi op. 81; Fanny: Quartetto per archi in mi bemolle maggiore). Foto: zVg<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Nel primo quartetto per archi in mi bemolle maggiore op. 12, tuttavia, il Quartetto Merel \u00e8 ancora tra s\u00e9. I quattro eseguono la veloce sezione centrale della Canzonetta come una danza degli elfi, l'Andante espressivo ha un grande respiro. E nel finale, Mary Ellen Woodside (violino 1), Edouard M\u00e4tzener (violino 2), Alessandro D'Amico (viola) e Rafael Rosenfeld (violoncello) combinano la leggerezza con un effetto drammatico che crea una vera e propria attrazione. Solo nel movimento d'apertura il quartetto si prende troppe libert\u00e0 agogiche, cosicch\u00e9 la pulsazione si perde un po' nei numerosi piccoli ritardi quando le figure di crome vengono suonate in modo eccessivo o le cesure introducono nuove sezioni.<\/p>\n<p>Insieme a Sini Simonen (violino 1), Daniel Roberts (violino 2), Charlotte Bonneton (viola) e Christopher Graves (violoncello), l'ottetto crea un'interpretazione narrativa ed equilibrata dal punto di vista tonale, che spazia dalla fragile intimit\u00e0 alla potenza orchestrale. Il compositore voleva che l'ottetto suonasse \"nello stile di un'orchestra sinfonica\". La fusione dei due ensemble in un unico, flessibile corpo sonoro ha un successo impressionante. Il modo in cui la tensione nella sezione di sviluppo del primo movimento si riverbera e la ricapitolazione \u00e8 annunciata dall'impeto dei semicrome che si rincorrono tra le voci - \u00e8 fantastico!
