A digitization concept for music education
The Swiss Association of Music Schools developed a digitization concept in close collaboration with experts and the Assembly of Delegates.
It is intended as a strategic framework for action for music schools and cantonal associations as well as the VMS itself and contains background information and recommendations for the digital transformation in music education. The key question is the following: How can the opportunities of digitalization be used effectively and meaningfully for music education and the organization of Swiss music schools? The concept is designed as a website. It provides music schools with basic principles and recommendations and thus becomes an instrument for developing their own digitalization strategies.
AI in music schools?
Richard-Emmanuel Eastes holds a doctorate in education and philosophy and works as a science communicator, consultant, lecturer and head of the Department of Educational Development and Innovation at the HES-SO. He is also a member of the AI steering group there. He advised the VMS on the development of a digitalization concept for Swiss music schools.
Richard-Emmanuel Eastes, how can AI benefit a music school?
It is important to distinguish between tools and implementation. For the VMS, implementation is important. When developing the digitalization concept, we defined four categories: administration, teaching, musical creation and communication. Chatbots such as ChatGPT are very helpful in supporting us with time-consuming tasks: Writing letters, taking minutes and creating short reports. AI can, for example, convert handwritten notes and help us structure documents, course overviews and timetables. There are also tools that generate vivid images or even videos. Meanwhile, there are various specialized tools, such as Metronaute (see article on the Focus page, editor's note), which can be helpful in the classroom. Another possible application is tools that provide support in finding ideas or sounds. AI can also have a supportive effect in the area of inclusion.
