Iván Fischer's Dedication to Beethoven Honored
Hungarian conductor and composer Iván Fischer was presented with the Beethoven Friendship Award as part of the Menuhin Festival Gstaad.

As co-founder and music director of the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Iván Fischer has written one of the most beautiful chapters in the history of the international orchestral world, according to the Menuhin Festival’s press release. Through worldwide tours and a series of critically acclaimed recordings—including numerous interpretations and complete recordings of Beethoven—he has also earned an exceptional reputation as an interpreter of the genius from Bonn.
The award is an initiative of the Beethoven House in Bonn and the Wegeler Wineries, supported by leading European wine producers. The award is inspired by a “friendship glass” that Ludwig van Beethoven gave to his childhood friend from Bonn, Franz Gerhard Wegeler, in 1816, which is now on display in the permanent exhibition at the Beethoven House.
